DARIJAN MATARIĆ Captain

I recently passed my Inland Navigation Captain exam and I'm now in a training phase, getting real hands-on command experience and continuing to build my skills on the water.

About Me

I've been around ships and rivers for quite a while now, and honestly, it's become more than just a job for me.

Over the years, I've worked on different types of vessels across Europe — from cargo ships on the Danube to passenger cruises between Budapest and Amsterdam.

Right now, since November 2025, I'm on a KVB (koppelverband) vessel as a captain in training. Basically, I'm starting to take on full command responsibilities, while still learning from experienced captains and picking up more hands-on decision-making experience every day.

What drives
me forward.

01
Advancing in Navigation
My focus is on growing as a professional — working towards higher certifications and gaining real command experience on the water. Along the way, I plan to share everything openly: study materials, exam prep, and honest insights from each step of the journey. If you're on the same path, you'll find something useful here.
02
Educational Content Creation
I'm interested in building a space on social media dedicated to inland waterway education — practical, straightforward content for anyone involved in navigation. Whether you're studying for exams, already working on the river, or just curious about life on the water, the goal is to make this knowledge more accessible and less dry than a textbook.
03
New Technologies & AI on the River
The inland shipping industry is changing, and I find that genuinely exciting. From navigation software and vessel automation to AI-assisted route planning and safety systems — I'm interested in how these tools are reshaping the way we work on the water, and how professionals can stay ahead of it.
